CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS Deposition Transcript: Kate McAllister Case Reference No.: CC-1992-0456-JK Date of Deposition: January 15, 1992 Presiding Official: Court Reporter Sophia DeLuca Attendees: - Kate McAllister (Deponent) - Richard Carmichael (Assistant State’s Attorney) - Justin Foreman (Attorney for McAllister Family) EXCERPT FROM TRANSCRIPT: Foreman: Mrs. McAllister, can you describe the circumstances under which your son, Kevin McAllister, was left alone on December 24th, 1991? Kate McAllister: It was a terrible mistake. We were in such a hurry to catch our flight to Paris. We believed Kevin was in the van with us, but we realized mid-flight that he wasn't there. Foreman: And upon realizing he was missing, did you contact the authorities immediately? Kate McAllister: Yes, I called the Chicago Police Department from the plane phone as soon as I could. But the lines were busy, and by the time we landed, we had to coordinate with local officers. Foreman: Your son, Kevin, was found having set numerous traps to ward off two burglars. Did you ever notice any concerning behavior, perhaps violent tendencies, in Kevin? Kate McAllister: Kevin never hurt anyone before. He can be creative and mischievous, sure, but I never saw him as violent. He’s… resourceful, that’s all. Foreman: Are you aware of any lasting psychological effects from this incident? Kate McAllister: We had him see a child psychologist a few times. He was reluctant to talk about what he did. He just said, “I did what I had to do.” He won’t elaborate. Foreman: Thank you, Mrs. McAllister. No further questions. [Deposition Ends] CERTIFICATION: I hereby certify that the above is a true and correct excerpt of the deposition given by Kate McAllister. Signed this 15th day of January, 1992. Sophia DeLuca Licensed Court Reporter Cook County, Illinois
